During the past academic year, a number of you have brought further honour on the Caius Engineers by winning College or University prizes. In case some of you didn't get a chance to see the list of College scholarships and exhibitions, we've listed below those who have been elected. Those who were elected last year and maintained a satisfactory level of achievement this year hold continuing awards, also listed below. The College also awards book prizes to certain high-achieving students who for whatever reason are not eligible for scholarships or exhibitions.
Scholarships are generally awarded to those who achieve a First Class result in Tripos
in their first or second year. A First obtained in the third year (or possibly the fourth)
is eligible for a Senior Scholarship. Scholarships carry with them certain significant
privileges, as well as a financial reward, and a book prize is often also awarded.
Exhibitions are awarded to those not eligible for scholarships, but who are within the top
25% of the candidates in Tripos.

Last year the newly established Caius Engineering Trust, with the support of the College Council, created three new College Prizes in Engineering, one in each of the second, third and fourth years for the "best performance in Engineering" in that year. The prizes have been named as follows:-
All three names are associated with major benefactions to the College and are regarded as distinguished Caius Engineers. Derek Ingram is Founder of the Caius Engineering Trust, a former Director of Studies, whose career has encompassed electrical engineering as well as microwave communications before he turned to academia. Sir David Salomons was a nineteenth century pioneer of the development of the motor car, founder of the Royal Automobile Club, and was among the first to install incandescent lighting in his house, in 1882. Reginald C. Cox read Engineering at Caius in the early 1900s; his son Mr C L Cox made a substantial donation to the Caius Engineering Trust in memory of his father (for further information, see The Caius Engineer, Volume 11, No 1 (1999)).
This year,
The Trust also established a travel grant scheme to support travel with engineering objectives. Up to three Caius Engineering Trust Travel Awards of £120 will be made available to successful candidates, who are expected to write a short article on their trip for inclusion in The Caius Engineer. These awards are administered in a similar way to Tutors' Travel Grants, except that the Tutors also consult the Engineering Directors of Studies on the choice of candidates. This year, an award was made to the following successful applicant:-
The following awards were announced at the end of last term. The awards were actually be made at a ceremony held in the Engineering Department on Wednesday 29th January 2003, at 3pm in Lecture Room 4.
