Gate of Virtue![]() This is the second of Dr Caius' gates. The Tree Court face of the gate is elegant stonework, surmounted by two figures of Fortune, representing prosperity and honour. The Caius Court face is plainer and surmounted with the inscription "Io. Caius posuit Sapientiae 1567" which has led to this side of the gate often (but erroneously) being called 'the Gate of Wisdom'. Between the two faces is a passage through the buildings, which is now used to display messages about the College clubs and societies. |
